Command & Conquer is a real-time strategy game originally designed to be played on the computer but also consoles like PlayStation. Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a prequel to Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn as well as the entire Tiberian series.

Red Alert is set in an alternate universe on the planet Earth, a world in which Hitler has no part in history and World War II never occurred. The Allies are battling the Soviet Union for control over Europe and game play consists of a series of timed missions that vary from overrunning the enemy to infiltrating enemy bases. The player issues commands to various units, several of which can be active at the same time. The game is popular even years after its issue date due to the detailed storyline, ease of learning to play and its user friendliness.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert can be played on the internet, allowing the player to compete with others around the world. Part of the fun of this game is that the two sides are so disparate in skills and equipment. For instance, the Soviets may have faster vehicles but the Allies have ones that are more responsive and maneuverable. You can mine gems and ore in order to earn credits to acquire equipment and build structures; the more factories you build to mine ore, the faster you'll earn credits to improve your army.

There are two possible outcomes, Allied or Soviet control. When the Allies win they go underground, which leads to the events in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. Soviet victory leads to the death of Stalin and the Brotherhood of Nod choosing obscurity only to re-emerge in the 1990's. The game is fun, fast-paced and unpredictable.
